The official weekend U.S. box office total for The Dark Knight Rises came in at $160,887,295. The daily breakdown for ticket sales are as follows: Fri. $75.7M, Sat. $44.9M, Sun. $40.2M. That’s considerably less than the $180M estimate that was being thrown around by movie industry analysts last week. No way of telling if the senselessly violent tragedy that occurred at the film’s midnight screening in Aurora, CO last week or the considerably mixed reviews of the movie had any impact on ticket sales. However, the final installment of Nolan’s Batman trilogy still managed to have the third highest opening weekend ever!
The Dark Knight Rises opened to $88M internationally in just 17 markets (it opens in another 40 next weekend) which included $22.5M from the UK, $15.7M from Korea, and $15.5M from Australia. That makes the current worldwide cume at $248.9M.
If you haven’t already, go out and see The Dark Knight Rises. It’s a terrific film.
