Warner Premiere, Distributor Of Direct To Video DC Comics Adaptations Is Closing

The Wrap has learned that Warner Brothers is closing its Warner Premiere direct to video label.

“Given the continuing decline in the direct-to-video film market and shifting business models in the production of digital series, the decision was made to close Warner Premiere,” the studio said in a statement to The Wrap. The division will continue and complete production on its remaining film and digital series project into the Fall.”

Warner Premiere has been the distributor for DC Comics adaptations such as Superman: Doomsday, Justice League: The New Frontier, Batman: Gotham Knight, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern: First Flight, Superman/Batman: Public Enemies, and Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths, among others.

Word has it that the highly anticipated Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Part 1, an animated adaptation of Frank Miller’s mini – series turned graphic novel, will be released as planned but things are still up in the air for the release of the second part. I’ll keep you posted.
