By now you’ve either experienced or heard of the debacle that was the one-day only return of McDonalds’ szechuan sauce. An episode of the popular Rick & Morty Show generated curiosity in the McNugget dipping sauce that was originally available for a limited time only back in 1998. This current promotion (which happened yesterday) took place at select locations and the sauce was distributed in very limited supply. From what I understand, most restaurants only received 20 packets to offer their customers. Of course, this resulted in things not going well (actually, pretty horrible for McDonalds) as many fans missed their opportunity to nab the coveted sauce. This led to an onslaught of nerd rage of biblical proportion aimed at the fast food giant via that awesome tool – social media as well as people losing their minds by spending almost $1K for 4 packets of the stuff (no kidding) on eBay.
Anyway, my condolences to whomever parted with their cash for it on eBay as McDonalds posted an apology and announced on their social media that their szechuan sauce will be back again this winter in a much bigger supply to meet the demand that they coyly said they had underestimated (yeah, right).
