Disney CEO Bob Iger announced during a conference call that Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson has been hired to develop three new films that take place in the Star Wars universe but will have nothing to do with the characters that we’ve been introduced to with the classic and new films. Instead, these films will “introduce new characters from a corner of the galaxy that Star Wars lore has never before explored.”
Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy had this to say about the news:
We all loved working with Rian on The Last Jedi. He’s a creative force, and watching him craft The Last Jedi from start to finish was one of the great joys of my career. Rian will do amazing things with the blank canvas of this new trilogy.
That some big news, right? Well that’s not all:
Disney creating new "Star Wars" live action series, one based on "Monsters Inc.," "High School Musical" TV series and Marvel series for its streaming service launching in 2019, says Iger
