Actress Kiernan Shipka (Mad Men) has been tapped to play Archie Comics’ Sabrina Spellman in a new TV series that will be based on The Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina comic book.
The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is published under the Archie Horror imprint of Archie Comics and focuses on Sabrina Spellman during her teenage years in the 1960s. The comic is written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa with art by Robert Hack, and is inspired by the appearances of Sabrina in Aguirre-Sacasa’s other Archie series, Afterlife with Archie.
“We’re all such huge fans of Kiernan’s work that when we started talking about who this new incarnation of Sabrina could be, her name was on everyone’s wish list,” said Archie Comics Chief Creative Officer and Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who wrote the original Chilling Adventures of Sabrina comics and will also pen the pilot for the TV adaptation. “This is a darker, more macabre version of Sabrina, and we’re incredibly excited for people to see Kiernan make this iconic character her own.”

The new Sabrina TV show was originally planned as a Riverdale spin-off to air on the CW but wound up with a 20 episode straight-to-series order on Netflix.
