Star Trek II News Roundup: Set Photos, Chris Pine Says It’s Relentless, And More Nimoy A Possibility

Access Hollywood spoke to Chris Pine (James T. Kirk) about the upcoming Star Trek sequel while the actor was promoting Rise Of The Guardians at CinemaCon. Here’s what he had to say:
“Of course I’m gonna tell you I think it’s gonna be better,” he laughed. “You pick up the characters from where they left off, and the development of the characters — I think — is just as exciting as the first one.

“And it’s relentless,” he added. “I think that’s the best adjective I can use.”

Chris said the team is actually close to wrapping up the second installment in the sci-fi reboot.

“We’re almost done,” he told Access. “It’s wrapping up very soon. It’s just as action-packed as the first one.”

The Daily Mail had some nice behind the scenes photos of Zachary Quinto (Spock) on set. Check them out.

Speaking of Spock, despite earlier reports to the contrary, it looks like Leonard Nimoy may indeed reprise his role as the elder Spock trapped in the reboot universe looking to help reestablish the Vulcan race and the younger versions of his crewmates.

Here’s what he told CNN:

AROL COSTELLO: Could I just say that I admire you? And in the new Star Trek movie (2009) you had a very prominent role, Leonard Nimoy, and I enjoyed it very much. You’re fantastic.

JASON CARROLL: In fact, Carol, we were talking about that … [to Nimoy] Carol, Carol Costello, the anchor … remember we were talking about the new Star Trek movie. It was great, you did a great job in it. And we were just about talking about that just before … will you be in another Star Trek movie?

LEONARD NIMOY: Uhh, we’re talking. We’re talking.

JASON CARROLL: Talking, Carol. [laughs] Hopefully.

Star Trek II starring Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana, Benedict Cumberbatch, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, Karl Urban, John Cho, and Alice Eve opens in theaters 05/17/13
