A Batman Without Bill Finger

Ty Templeton posted this awesome piece of art. It’s a Batman story as if there were no input from Bill Finger.

The artwork is Templeton’s way of showing support for Marc Tyler Nobleman’s campaign to have Bill Finger get a Google-Doodle on what would have been his 100th birthday 02/08/14.

As most fans know, legally Bob Kane is credited as the sole creator of The Caped Crusader. Of course, that’s not entirely true. Yes, Kane came up with the name and the partial basis for the character’s look but Finger really honed that into The Dark Knight that saw print – among other things.
In Templeton’s own words:
Without Bill writing the scripts and shaping the visuals, we don’t have Robin, Bruce Wayne, the Bat-cave, the Batmobile, the Penguin, Gotham City, the Signal, Commissioner Gordon, Alfred the Butler, Wayne Manor, the Batarang, Catwoman, the basic look and color scheme of the Batman costume, the Joker, The Riddler, The Scarecrow (as well as Green Lantern, Wildcat and a host of other characters!)

Personally, even during some of my correspondences with the late Jerry Robinson (another prolific early contributor to the character), Bill Finger was acknowledged as the one with the most creative input regarding Batman.

Feel free to send a note to proposals@google.com with the suggestion that Google give Bill Finger a Google-Doodle on his 100th birthday.
