Yes, the Masters of the Universe live-action movie is still in active development. Sony and Mattel Films have hired screenwriting duo of Art Marcum and Matt Holloway to pen the script for He-Man’s next big screen adventure. The team’s work includes screenplays for Men In Black: International, Transformers: The Last Night, and Iron Man. Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, Steve Tisch and DeVon Franklin will serve as the movie’s producers.
Fans will no doubt remember the Masters Of The Universe film from 1987 which starred Dolph Lundgren and Frank Langella as He-Man and Skeletor. While it’s definitely a guilty pleasure of mine, I can’t wait for the property to get the big screen treatment it so richly deserves.
This is Mattel’s second big movie announcement. Earlier this week it was revealed that Margot Robbie is the latest actress to be attached to the starring in role in Barbie. The effort to bring the iconic toy to live-action has been in development since 2015. Amy Schumer and Anne Hathaway were previously tapped for the lead role.
